Lake Le Homme Dieu

View from the dock as I headed out.

I felt like we hit the bass pretty hard on Lake Geneva yesterday and decided to give Lake Le Homme Dieu a go.

However, before doing that I had to take a few warm up casts on Geneva, which resulted in a plump 16″ fish in the reeds.

With that I headed to Lake Le Homme Dieu.  I had only fished there once or twice in the past but had looked at my Navionics app and marked several promising spots.

The first point I rolled up onto was dynamite.  You could see bait fish dimpling the surface and it wasn’t long before my minnow pattern Wiggle Wart got bit.  I switched to the Arakushad after a half dozen fish and caught a couple more.

I tried several more spots with a spinner bait, as I noticed that most of the fish I was catching were just under the surface, i.e., they were hitting the crank baits within a half dozen cranks of the reel.

Later on I was rewarded with this nice 17″ bass on a willow leaf spinner bait that was crushed just as it hit the water.

The fish were really going today.  Points, bars, inside turns.  Active.  On average, these fish were about 2″ bigger than what I caught yesterday on Lake Geneva.

Threw a swim bait in the 20′ depths around a mid-lake hump hoping for maybe a walleye and ended up nabbing a couple pike the in the 24″ range.

Fished again that evening on Lake Le Homme Dieu with one of my daughters who managed to catch half a dozen fish or so.  Once again, the fish were not as active as they were in the morning.

Appears to be a morning bite.

A stunning sunset to end the day!
