Slow Trolling

June 9, 2018

May 12, 2018

Opening fishing again found me on Lake Minnetonka.

I was a little unsure as to how active the fish would be with the ice going out so late.  The water was colder than usual, surface temp about 45 degrees.

Started fishing about 3 a.m. and slow trolled minnow pattern Rapalas along rocky points and shorelines.  Nothing too sophisticated.

The key time seems to be from about 5 – 6 a.m. and I caught two walleyes, one about 16″ and the other about 20″, plus one small northern pike.  Not too many boats on the water.

Returned to Lake Minnetonka on Mother’s Day, May 13, and fished for a couple of hours before anyone was up at my house.  Caught another 20″ walleye and had two others on.

Both mornings were awesome with the migrating loons calling, the geese returning, an owl hooting across the water, an eagle soaring above, a flock of turkeys gobbling and a buck snorting on Big Island, plus the slap of a beaver’s tail.
