Swinging Gate

March 30, 2017

Big plans.  Work for half the day.  Fish the other half.

Things started out well as I was informed that my 9:30 a.m. meeting was going to start half an hour early. Yes, I’m going to get out of the office on time.  Wrong, the 9 a.m. start was a rumor and they showed up at the originally scheduled time.  Can’t blame a guy for hoping though.

Then the meeting went as long as expected, two and a half hours.  And then, of all things, they wanted to take us to lunch.  Ugh, can you believe it.  Worse case scenario. Just as I feared.  Four hours of fishing now looked like two, if I was lucky.  No way to get to the Rush and swing streamers as I hoped.

Arrived at the Swinging Gate on the Kinni around 2:30 p.m. and fish were rising all over the place to midges.  The first cast resulted in a small brown on a Griffith’s Gnat.  Several more trout shredded the Griffith’s Gnat so I decided to try a Smoke Jumper.  Lots of misses but caught three our four on that as well.  Changed to a Syl’s Midge and that produced another 3 or 4 browns.  No biggies.  Lot’s of misses.  Plenty of action for two hours.
