Steiger Lake

August 6, 2016

August 6, 2016 – Thought about heading to Lake Minnewashta today.  However, my concerns about water quality there were confirmed when the beach was closed earlier this week due to e-coli.  Steiger is just down the road a ways and despite its tiny size and shallow access, contains a nice population of bass.

I had two lethargic strikes on a buzz-bait.  Tried a spinner bait and swim jig but that wasn’t happening.  Caught two small pike on a Wiggle-Wart crankbait before switching to a creature bait.

Caught a nice 18′ largemouth, the first of five more that I landed, with the largest being twenty inches.  Had two others on that jumped and spit the hook.  Solid day of fishing.

I’m sure there are others of you that feel the same way and relish that magical moment when you feel the line jump, reel down and set the hook to connect with a great fish that barrels for the heavens.
