Lake Minnewashta

August 6, 2016

July 31, 2016 – Nothing like getting to the lake and asking yourself where your phone is.  All sorts of thoughts go through your head: did I leave it somewhere on the boat this morning when I was loading up, is it on the street by our house, or worse yet, somewhere on 494.  Hopefully, I just left it on the kitchen counter. A little too late to do anything now but launch the boat and go fishing.

Fishing was okay. Caught four bass, the largest was 18″ and several hammer handle pike, which are pretty typical for Minnewashta.  I was a little disappointed in the water quality though.  I remember Minnewashta as being pretty clear in prior years.  Today, it was pea-soup green with the weedline ending at about five feet.  I realize it has been warm but a spot that used to have over hanging trees has now been cleared and the surrounding landscape is covered in lush green sod, which leads me to think that continued housing development and lawn care maintenance is having a negative impact.

Still a good lake. Just not as pristine as it once was.
