Gratitude

July 28, 2014

July 13, 2014, found me at Lac Lavon Park for my daughter’s softball tournament and after dumping her and my wife off for infield and batting I headed to Keller Lake for thirty minutes or so.  The water was dirty (couldn’t see my meet in a foot of water) and I spent most of the time pulling an assortment of weeds off my lures.  No luck.  Game one resulted in a win and more time to wait for the next game.  In my case more time to go fishing.  This time to Lac Lavon.

Lac Lavon looked more promising from the moment I set foot in the water.  The shallows had a mix of slop, bluegills all over the place and a number of small bass cruising the shallows.  It wasn’t long before a largemouth inhaled my yellow Mr. Twister the moment it hit the water.  I saw a really nice sized bass come out of some shoreline weeds.  I switched to a jointed-minnow Rapala that resulted in two more feisty bass that exploded on it as it sat along the edge of the weeds.

The thing about it is, is that while none of the fish were exceptionally large I had a deep feeling of gratitude.  Sure, there is a lot of global unrest, political bickering, and other turmoil that occupy the headlines, but we are blessed to live in a great place where one has public opportunity to wet a line and enjoy nature.  So thank you to all of our political and environmental leaders, and the MN DNR for granting us these opportunities.
