Before the Storm

Lately I’ve been working on my golf game so Sunday, July 21, was one of those days where I hadn’t planned on going fishing but at the last minute decided what the heck.  It was cloudy, light breeze and relatively cool give the heat of hot weather that we’d been having.  The Pelican Raider was already in the back of the truck and all I had to do was grab a few things and I was at the lake in a few minutes.

Hitting the water at about 6:30 a.m. the clouds kept getting thicker and darker and off in the distance I thought I heard the rumblings of thunder.  Not sure, I started working my way back to the access, as there is no way to outrace a storm with the trolling motor propelled Pelican Raider.  Flipping a 1/4 oz. chartreuse jig head and culprit worm I felt a couple of taps and thought it might be another bluegill attacking the bait.  I set the hook and missed but realized it was a little heavier.  Bummer. Letting it sink back to the bottom it hit again and this time I connected and landed a nice 20″ largemouth bass just before I had to scramble for the access.
