Where is winter?

February 14, 2013

November 25, 2012

Another gorgeous November day.  As I troll the breaklines of Lake Harriet I wonder: “where is winter?”

The weather is cool, but not seasonably cold, so I decide to give Lake Harriet another shot, this time for walleyes.  The MN DNR regularly stocks the lake with walleye fingerlings and I have had some luck in the past fishing for walleyes through the ice.  Essentially, I am playing a hunch that the fish I marked on the depth finder are walleyes.
My hunch and efforts go unrewarded as jigging the breaklines with an assortment of soft plastics results in nary a nibble.  Maybe next time.  Will there be a next time, it has got to get cold soon? It sure would be nice to give it one more shot with live bait though.  Bait shops in a metropolitan area are a vanishing breed.  Searching out bait just means more time in the car and less time in the water.  Oh well, if I get another opportunity I’ll sacrifice the time and get some bait.  Something has got to work.
