Prior to our kids’ choir concert today in Rochester, MN, my wife and I decided to take a side trip to the Salem Glen Vineyard & Winery, which is located just a few miles outside of Rochester.

By no means are we wine experts, so this trip was just for kicks.  Surrounded by farms, the Salem Glen Vineyard and Winery has a comfortable tasting room and patio for those looking to make a visit.  The tasting room is surrounded by vines Imageand has pleasant views. Formerly a dairy farm, the original windmill stands guard nearby.  All grapes and fruits are locally and regionally sourced.

Following is a list of the wines that we sampled:

Moonlight White

St. Pepin

Pulsar Red

Seyval Blanc

Rooster Red

Frontenac Gris

Dark Skies

My favorite happened to be Dark Skies, a Chokeberry Wine.  Reminiscent of a port wine, this fortified fruit wine tasted great accompanied by a few nibbles of chocolate.  Everyone’s palate is a bit different and my wife preferred the light, sweet flavors of the Moonlight White.

While I can’t tell you if these were the best wines in the world, I can say that we had a great time.  It was fun to squeeze in a few minutes for ourselves and to giggle over a few sips of wine.
